Hi, my name is Norashiqin Toh and I am a postdoctoral fellow at Tsinghua University’s Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities and Social Sciences. I am interested in the International Relations of Southeast Asia, focusing on interstate cooperation over a variety of issues, the region’s institutional architecture, and public opinion on foreign policy. My dissertation examined the role of legitimacy in violent and non-violent contested spaces, specifically in the context of violent insurgencies and transnational governance. I have conducted fieldwork in Pattani, Jakarta, Singapore, and the Mekong subregion. I received my PhD in Political Science from Columbia University.

I was a 2023 SEAREG Fellow, and the 2022-2023 Stephanie G. Neuman Fellow in Comparative Defense Studies at the Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies.

My work has been supported by the Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund, the Weatherhead East Asia Institute, the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies, the National University of Singapore, and the Singapore Social Science Research Council.
